Tina Musuya

Tina Musuya is a feminist and the former Executive Director of Centre for Domestic Violence Prevention (CEDOVIP).  Under her guidance, CEDOVIP won the 2010 UNAIDS Red Ribbon Award for innovative work in preventing violence against women and HIV.  She also led the successful pilot of the SASA! program in Kampala, a ground breaking initiative that reduced physical intimate partner violence by 52% that showed that preventing violence against women (VAW) through social norm change is possible. Through CEDOVIP, she inspired local governments in more than 10 districts in Uganda to stream line VAW prevention through their community development department.  She has 17 years of experience of working with communities, police, civil society, local government and policy makers to prevent VAW. She coordinated the development of the Uganda Police Force Domestic Violence handbook and the police GBV training manual and helped draft and successfully campaigned for passage of the Domestic Violence Act.  Tina recently joined Social Development Direct as a Co-Lead for the Learning partnership Team for the What Works to prevent violence against women and girls: Impact at Scale. Tina is a long-time friend, feminist co-conspirator and partner of Raising Voices.

Jeanne Ward

Dipak Naker

Dipak is a co-founder  at Raising Voices, where he spends his days asking challenging questions about how to prevent violence against children, bringing answers to those questions to life and supporting a team of hardworking staff. He has designed an award-winning communication campaign that reaches approximately 2 million Ugandans a month and developed an evidence-based methodology for preventing violence against children in schools that is currently being rolled out in 1,000 Ugandan schools. He has written many substantive pieces on preventing violence and serves on the boards of a number of dynamic organizations. Dipak was born in Tanzania and has lived in East Africa for most of his life.

Aidan Eyakuze

Barbrah Nanyunja

Barbrah Nanyunja is a lover of music, fashion and has a sense of humor, when you get to know her. She is known by her nickname “positive attitude” because she approaches all situations with such. As a proud member of the Good Schools Team, she is responsible for supporting day-to-day implementation of the VAC program activities including providing technical assistance to the Regional Resource Persons, partners and schools, conducting trainings on the Good School Toolkit and establishing advocacy relationships with relevant local government authorities in the implementing districts. She also coordinates the Violence Prevention Learning Center activities for the Good School Team. Barbrah holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Management from Makerere University. After university, she worked as a Research Assistant with the School of Public Health at Makerere and then with Raising Voices as a researcher on the SASA! Study. Barbrah is passionate about activism after sharing so many touching experiences of violence against women and children in the community. It has always been a dream of hers to work with Raising Voices to contribute to the lives of children.

Clinton Okecha

Clinton is known around the office as “the Chairman” because he has worked at Raising Voices for many years. Clinton is a driver and a messenger, and he does a variety of things on any given day, from repairing equipment to making sure the office is secure and safe. He is also the master gardener at Raising Voices and keeps the compound looking smart. Clinton looked after himself and his siblings from a young age and learned how to be independent very early in life. After leaving secondary school, he started selling small supplies and moved to Kampala in 1995. Clinton would like to tell the world that although a person can see many difficult things in life and experience many challenges, it is possible and essential to keep looking forward and believing that life can be happy. This is a lesson he strives to teach to his own children.

Gabriella Pinto

Gabriella is a Technical Advisor in the Violence Against Women Prevention Team at Raising Voices. She provides training and technical support to partners all over the world who are interested to use the SASA! approaches as part of their efforts to prevent violence against women and girls. Prior to joining Raising Voices, Gabriella held several technical advisory roles with organizations focused on the rights and well-being of adolescent girls and young women, including Plan International UK, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, and the Lesotho National Council of Women. She holds a master’s degree in Education, Gender, and International Development from the UCL Institute of Education and a Bachelor’s Degree from Yale University. Originally from New York, Gabriella has bounced around a lot and is happy to have found a community at Raising Voices. She enjoys contemporary dance and yoga, reading, and learning from other feminist activists.

Guillermo Salazar

Guillermo Salazar is a consultant for the SASA! Cohort in Mexico. He is from Guatemala, a small country located in Central America; a green corner, full of parrots, handicrafts and volcanoes. As a member of the SASA! team he provides training and technical support to indigenous groups working on violence prevention in their communities.  Previously, Guillermo worked for many years looking for children lost during the war in Guatemala and supporting their families. He has also worked accompanying men who use violence. Guillermo enjoys playing guitar and singing with his daughter. She studies music and being with her is full of beautiful moments.  Guillermo is very motivated to share experiences and enjoys facilitating processes in which people grow and are happier. As a good listener, Guillermo enjoys hearing other's stories and sharing his own – he believes that life in community with others is lighter and more beautiful.

Hassan Muluusi

Hassan Muluusi is known as the "fun man" of the Good Schools team! As a Program Manager of the team, his work involves supervising team members, designing program, developing and managing budgets, and oversight over a pool of resource persons. Hassan was previously a teacher at a pilot school that implemented the Good Schools Toolkit. He authored two secondary school textbooks, taught for over a decade and served as an examiner with Uganda National Examinations Board. Hassan holds a Bachelor’s Degree with Education and a Masters of Human Resources Management of Makerere University and Islamic University in Uganda respectively. Hassan has great passion for sports inspired by his previous institutions that cherished and invested greatly in the same.

Joyce Nabaggala

Joyce Nabaggala is referred to as “Jo-Joy,” her nickname even back in her childhood days. She works as an office assistant supporting the entire staff. Before joining Raising Voices, Joyce worked with World Vision Uganda as an office assistant. She is the mother of one child, and he is her inspiration! Joyce enjoys shopping and listening to music in her free time.

Leah Goldmann

Leah was known around the office for talking about and/or showing you pictures of her cat. She supports the VAW prevention team at Raising Voices, supporting national, regional and global advocacy initiatives to strengthen feminist-informed policy and programming on violence against women prevention. Additionally, she is a doctoral student in Gender Studies at Arizona State University.  Previously, she worked for the Ugandan Ministry of Health, developing policies, guidelines and curricula to strengthen the health sector’s foundation in rights-based and gender-transformative approaches. Leah received her master of public administration degree from Columbia University in New York. She’s a co-founder of the Society of Gender Professionals and on the Coordinating Committee for COFEM. She’s inspired by international feminist initiatives seeking to dismantle the patriarchy and is always ready to join a new book club.

Olive Nabisubi

Olive is known for her extensive skills for community mobilization and a positive attitude towards life. With a quiet spirit, she sprinkles kindness everywhere she goes. Olive first worked as a researcher at Rakai Health Sciences Program on the Safe Homes and Respect for Everyone (SHARE) project. She has extensive knowledge of the SASA! approach, having worked on the SASA! baseline survey at Raising Voices, and later joining CEDOVIP as a program officer where she led the implementation of three rounds of SASA! in Kampala and supported the groundbreaking SASA! study. After CEDOVIP, she briefly worked as a consultant for organizations implementing SASA! At Raising Voices, she is a Technical manager and provides technical supports to SASA! partners. Those close to Olive know her love for visual arts and gardening. Olive holds a BA in Development Studies from Makerere University and has undertaken several professional certifications on good ethical practices, essentials and principles for effective VAW prevention and human subject protection training for social behavioral and biomedical research.  

Robert Masendi

Robert Masendi is best known to many staff as "Rabso" and works with Raising Voices as a Security Officer. Prior to joining Raising Voices in 2018, Robert served as a Security Guard in various companies such as Security Plus (U) Ltd, Green Label Services (U) Ltd, Gem Graphic Company and Consult Care Medical Laboratory. Robert loves security work and can’t imagine a life away from his work. He enjoys seeing the happy faces and smiles on people's faces after being assured they can be supported and then seeing them get the help they need. This is his motivation.

Ronald Kafuuma

Ronald Kafuuma works as an Office Assistant at Raising Voices. Prior to joining Raising Voices, he worked at ABSA Bank in the same capacity. Ronald is kind and fun to work with. He enjoys his work and his so proud to be associated with Raising Voices. He is married and his family is a great motivation for working hard. Ronald enjoys sports and dancing outside his work.

Wilson Businge Kasaija

Wilson Businge Kasaija is the Finance and Operations Coordinator at Raising Voices. He works with everyone in the organization and directly or indirectly provides support services and interacts with other stakeholders. He is a Professional Accountant and previously worked as an external auditor with both national and international audit firms, internal auditor and has also headed finance departments. Wilson is a Certified Public Accountant (Kenya) and holds a Master of Business Administration from Makerere University. Wilson is compassionate, kind and is inspired by helping others. He likes keeping trees around him and tending to other crops.

Yvette Alal

Yvette Alal is a member of the violence against women prevention team at Raising Voices. Her role is to support partner organizations using SASA! Together to prevent violence against women. Yvette has over 15 years’ experience of using social norms change approaches to prevent violence against women with a special expertise in working with government institutions such as the Uganda Police Force, the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution, and the Ministry of Health to develop and implement systems and protocols for preventing and responding to violence against women. Yvette has been actively involved in the development and implementation of SASA! and SASA! Together over the last decade. She graduated from Makerere University and lives and works in Kampala, Uganda.

Yvonne Laruni

Yvonne describes herself as bubbly and full of life person who is bold with colors. She loves finding joy in the smallest things of life. She is a non-conformist who believes in challenging injustice. Yvonne is currently a Program Manager with the Good School Team. On a daily basis her work involves engaging with different stakeholders to prevent violence against children. Yvonne holds a BA in Human Resource Management from Makerere University Business Schools, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management from Uganda Management institute. She is also an alumni of the Moremi Initiative Leadership Empowerment and Development (MILEAD) fellowship.
