Understanding the Impact of COVID-19 School Closures on Adolescents’ Mental Health in Uganda
This Learning Paper describes Raising Voices’ experience exploring the intersections of violence against children and mental health in our school-based programming. In particular, it focuses on a qualitative research study (in collaboration with the University of Alabama) carried out just after the COVID-19 pandemic. The study describes the impacts of a long period of school closures on the mental health of school-going adolescents in Uganda. We highlight key findings and present actionable recommendations for programming to support students’ mental health in schools.
