Dr. Mpho Elizabeth Mpofu is a criminologist, sociologist, and development practitioner with over 12 years of experience working across Africa and Europe on gender equality, diversity and inclusion, feminist accountability and violence against women and girls. She holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Botswana and MSc in International Development (Gender) from the University of Bristol England.

Dr. Mpho currently serves as the Accountability Co-lead for the What Works II Consortium, a global programme focused on preventing violence against women and girls through evidence-based interventions. Her work spans research, programme strategy, feminist accountability, gender justice, and systems change. She has also contributed to research on backlash and containment in support of Co-Impact’s $1 billion Gender Fund.

Dr. Mpho is a 2025–2026 Gender Equity Evidence Accelerator Fellow at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Her work is grounded in a commitment to advancing equity, dignity, and the meaningful participation of women, girls, and marginalized communities in shaping development and social change.
